Your Sandy Springs Summer: New Tables, Free Concerts, and the Weekend Rhythm at City Springs

Something quiet has happened to summer in Sandy Springs. The concerts didn't get bigger. The farmers market didn't move. Rumi's Kitchen didn't change zip codes. But between the reopening on Roswell Road, the two free concert series running on opposite ends of the same district, and the Thursday-through-Sunday programming stacked onto City Green, the neighborhood now has a walkable summer calendar that used to require driving to Alpharetta or Midtown to match.

If you've lived here more than a couple of years, you already know the pieces. The thesis of this post is about how they fit together in 2026, and which nights are worth clearing.

The anchor: Rumi's is back, and it is not the same room

Rumi's Kitchen on Roswell Road reopened on March 6, 2026, after nearly a year closed for renovation. The number worth holding onto is the budget. The planned $3.5 million renovation was estimated to take six months, and the flagship reopened nearly a year later after nearly tripling its original budget. That is not a refresh. That is a rebuild.

The complaint that drove most of the work was acoustic. Plaster walls were installed to absorb sound, addressing a frequent complaint from previous Sandy Springs guests, and the room now includes a 22-seat curved marble bar, wood- and stone-inset tables, and a private dining room with a floor-to-ceiling mural by artist Dean Barger. Owner-chef Ali Mesghali also brought on a pastry chef he'd spent five years trying to hire, Sohrob Esmaili, the 2021 Food Network Spring Baking Championship winner, whose menu includes a spiced chocolate mousse cake, a bread-pudding-like majoon toffee cake, and a Persian ice cream sandwich made with profiterole dough and saffron-rosewater-vanilla ice cream.

Two things are worth flagging for locals. First, brunch service began on Sunday, March 15, 2026, which puts a Persian-inflected brunch inside the City Springs orbit for the first time. The brunch menu features za'atar biscuits and gravy, Turkish eggs, and shakshuka. Second, there is now a water menu featuring still and sparkling varieties from around the world, each presented with tasting notes, which is either the funniest or the most sincere thing that has happened to a Sandy Springs dining room this decade, depending on your disposition.

The weekly rhythm nobody quite named yet

Here is what shifted this year. Sandy Springs is now running programming on four days a week within the same district, and if you know the pattern you can plan a full weekend without moving your car.

Thursday evenings. Sundown Social returns to City Green Plaza on select Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. Expect live local music, cornhole and giant four-in-a-row on the lawn, and an outdoor bar. The 2026 run continues on select Thursdays from May 14 through October 27, 6 to 8 p.m., which extends the pattern deep into fall.

Friday nights. City Green Live is the marquee series, and the 2026 lineup is the strongest in the program's history.

Saturday mornings. The Sandy Springs Farmers Market runs every Saturday starting April 4, 2026, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at City Springs, 1 Galambos Way. The market was recently voted a Best of Georgia Winner in the Produce Markets & Local Farm category by the Georgia Business Journal. If you have kids, the Dog Days celebration this season includes an appearance by the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, which is not something the average municipal farmers market can advertise.

Sunday afternoons. Concerts by the Springs runs at Heritage Sandy Springs Amphitheatre off Blue Stone Road, on the opposite end of the district from City Green. Bring a picnic and a low chair.

The two concert series are booked as complements rather than duplicates. Friday nights on City Green skew national and higher-energy. Sunday afternoons at Heritage skew Atlanta-rooted and picnic-paced.

A note on the Sunday parking, because this catches new residents every year. Free parking is available at the Sandy Springs United Methodist Church Activities Center off Sandy Springs Circle and the South Parking Lot at the corner of Blue Stone and Mt. Vernon. Do not park in shopping centers or in front of businesses, including the City Walk shopping center and Centre Court, formerly Ace Hardware. You may be towed or ticketed for parking improperly. The Sunday concerts are on first Sundays, except in July, when the date shifts to the second Sunday because of the July 4 holiday weekend.

The dates worth clearing early

Three summer nights punch above the weekly pattern.

June 4, City Green. For one night, City Green transforms into a dining event as 25+ Sandy Springs restaurants gather to sample bites, cocktails, and meet the local chefs behind them, from 6 to 10 p.m. If you have wanted to short-circuit the question of where to eat next in the neighborhood, this is the shortest path.

June 8, Byers Theatre. French music legend Laurent Voulzy, whose songs have soundtracked generations of listeners with hits like "Rockollection" and "Belle-Ile-en-Mer, Marie-Galante," brings his mesmerizing harmonies to Sandy Springs for one night only in a rare U.S. appearance on June 8, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., with doors open one hour before. If you have French-speaking friends anywhere in the metro, this is the invitation to send.

May 9, Morgan Falls Overlook Park. The Lantern Parade is an evening of glowing lanterns and larger-than-life puppets, where families create their own lanterns and join the procession down to Morgan Falls Overlook Park at 200 Morgan Falls Road, with festivities starting at 6:00 p.m. on May 9, 2026, and DIY Lantern Workshops held May 2-3. It's the closest thing Sandy Springs has to a signature summer image.

What's changing at the edges

The district gets most of the attention, but two developments on the fringes matter for anyone tracking the neighborhood's food scene.

Moxie Burger has a new location on the way to Chastain Market at 4600 Roswell Road, first reported by Tomorrow's News Today Atlanta and confirmed by Lavista Associates in a Facebook statement, joining the 122,000-square-foot mixed-use development. This will mark the sixth location for the burger joint. The Chastain Market build-out has been the slowest-burning food story on the south end of Sandy Springs, and Moxie is the kind of anchor that tends to bring two or three more tenants with it.

On Restaurant Row, the Roswell Road spine still holds the density that keeps the neighborhood distinct. Restaurant Row in Sandy Springs features more than 120 local independent eateries, with everything from Mediterranean street food and contemporary Caribbean to omakase-style sushi and Kosher. The count is the point. Very few Atlanta neighborhoods sustain three-digit independent restaurant density outside the Beltline corridor.

A word on the wellness programming, which locals underuse

If you have not walked over to City Green midweek, you may not know this is running. Tai Chi on the City Green is offered every Wednesday and Friday at 10:00 a.m., brought by the City of Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks Department in partnership with Florin Szondi of the USA Chen Taiji Center, with an additional Wednesday session at 5:00 p.m. It is free, it is uncrowded before June, and it is a genuinely quiet forty-five minutes on a lawn that is otherwise programmed to the hilt.

Free morning group workouts also run on the plaza throughout the season for all fitness levels, no registration required.

The routing question, for households hosting guests

The out-of-town guest weekend is the stress test for any neighborhood's summer program. Sandy Springs finally passes it without a drive downtown.

A workable Saturday: farmers market at City Springs from 9 to 10:30, walk to a late breakfast at Rumi's brunch if it's a Sunday guest, or grab pastries and coffee at the market itself, then head to Morgan Falls Overlook Park for an hour by the Chattahoochee. A workable evening: an early dinner at Kaiser's Chophouse or The Select next to the Performing Arts Center, then whichever concert series is running that night. Both venues are inside the district. The Select is located next to Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center and Sandy Springs City Hall, with two-hours free parking in the underground deck and surrounding lots.

The pieces have been in place for a few years. What is new in 2026 is that the calendar and the rooms finally line up on the same nights.

The bigger read

For homeowners here, the practical implication is straightforward. Sandy Springs summer used to be a set of things you did if you were already planning to be in the district. In 2026 it is the reason to be in the district, and it holds its own against the Beltline programming that has pulled attention south for the last decade. That is a real shift, and it changes how the neighborhood presents to friends, guests, and, over time, to buyers who visit in July and see a district that is actually alive on a Thursday night.
